Restored medical device returned to the Museum
Thanks to the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Croatia, in 2020 the works on the restoration of the museum material selected for the permanent exhibition continued. In September, the restoration of audiometry device from the Otorhinolaryngology Collection of the Croatian Museum of Medicine and Pharmacy was completed.
The device originates from the former ENT clinic in Šalata (Zagreb), and was included in the museum collection as part of a donation from the School of Medicine, University of Zagreb, which was taken over in 2016. In the permanent exhibition of the Museum, this device will be exhibited within the thematic unit of branches of medicine, in which otorhinolaryngology will be presented first.
Some parts of the device were damaged and it was difficult to handle when opening the lid. All damage was repaired and the item was brought to a condition suitable for display, taking care to avoid unnecessary aesthetic procedures such as painting and varnishing which would diminish the authenticity of the old example of the medical technique. Conservation and restoration works were performed by senior restorer Zoran Kirchhoffer, B.Sc. Mechanical Engineer, Craft Industrial Archeology, Kumrovec.
