Exhibits from the CMMF collection at the exhibition BODIES 2.0 at the Klovićevi dvori Gallery

After 2010, when this exhibition was first presented to the Croatian public, an impressive collection of real human bodies, organs and organ systems will once again be exhibited at the Klovićevi dvori Gallery in Zagreb from April 8 to June 20. The reason for the addition of 2.0 to the name of the exhibition are new, hitherto unexposed bodies. The exhibition presents true human anatomy with a collection of 15 complete human bodies and about 200 organs to show us how perfect and at the same time a complex machine man is.

BODIES 2.0 – The Magnificent Universe in Us is a scientific and educational exhibition that presents to those interested about 200 prepared organs and whole bodies, all of which have been preserved by the so-called “plastination” procedure. With the help of the exhibition, we gain insight under the skin, discovering the structure and complexity of our own bodies. Instead of a series of imitations, the Bodies 2.0 exhibition it depicts real, once-living human bodies and organs, allowing visitors to see first-hand what is usually just a “privilege” for doctors and scientists. The goal of the Bodies 2.0 exhibition is to provide the visitor with an even deeper understanding of the functioning of their own body. Visitors will have the opportunity to get to know all the organs responsible for thinking, breathing or even movement, as well as the “highways” of blood circulation that keep the engine moving. Bodies preserved by the plastination process are a relatively new method of preservation in which water and lipids are removed from the body and then replaced with liquid plastic, which after solidification forms a solid, durable anatomical pattern. It is important that even the finest, most fragile tissues are preserved in the process, even at the microscopic level, which makes the method invaluable from a medical point of view. Plasticization results in authentic preparations that can be exhibited.

At the exhibition BODIES 2.0 – Magnificent Universe in us, old medical instruments from the holdings of the Croatian Museum of Medicine and Pharmacy will be presented, in accordance with the concept of this traveling exhibition, which in each city where it takes place includes part of the local museum of medicine.
