International Women’s Day (abbreviated Women’s Day) is celebrated on March 8 every year. That day celebrates the economic, political and social achievements of women. The first Women’s Day was marked on February 28, 1909 in the United States by a declaration issued by the Socialist Party of America. Among other important historical events, it marks the 1911 fire at the Triangle Shirtwaist factory in New York City that killed more than 140 women.
