Jakob Cosmini (Rijeka, 1733. – 1799.) graduated from University of Medicine in Vienna. He was a surgeon in the Hospital of the Holy Spirit in Rijeka. In 1786 he opened the first school for midwives in Rijeka. The school was closed in 1799, after his death.
