This Day in History: 2025-04-11
April 11 is marked as World Parkinson’s Day. For people with Parkinson’s disease, there is a saying, “People with a bright mind trapped in their own bodies.” Parkinson’s disease is one of the most common neurodegenerative diseases today. It is named after Dr. James Parkinson, who in 1817 first described the symptoms of this disease in his famous essay on “trembling paralysis” (An Essay on the Shaking Palsy). It occurs in 1% of the population older than 60 years.
